Teen sweethearts  / Laura &. Esther Cartagena (old coworker/friend )
My mother, Esther Garcia Cartagena, always thought of the youth at Loisaida, Inc. as her children.  Both Irving & Susan were her son & daughter.  She was very proud of all the successes of all her "kids".  But kept a soft spot for Irving and Susan, Loisaida's teen sweethearts who turned their puppy love into a loving family.

To Debbie:
I know that a mother's loss is incomparable to any other pain, so I keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that the love and support from family, friends, and community will help to ease your pain a little.

I, too, remember these teen sweethearts, before the birth of beautiful Stacey, and how in love they were.  When they began their family and planning their lives together, I knew that it would last.  I had never before witnessed a love like theirs at such a young age, but you could tell just by watching them together, that this was the "real thing".

To Susan:
I cannot fathom the idea of losing the love of your life. I hope you can find solace in the children created by the love you shared with Irving.
We'll miss you always  / Kamini (Cousin)

May the Lord guide Irving to his beloved father so they can rest as one in peace and watch over all of their loved ones.  May Irving find his way to Susan, Stacey, Christian, Cindy, and his mother to wrap them in his angel wings and give them comfort as each sun rises and sets knowing that he is no long physically here with them.  And may you all find comfort, support and shelter in that embrace because he will always be there for you.  Irving was a hero, not just in this war, but in life and we'll never forget him.  My condolences go out to Susan and the children, nothing will ever make this okay or better, but memories and time will keep you strong.  To titi Deb, a mother should never live out her child but try to keep him alive in your heart because no one can ever take away or compare to the memories that a mother has with her child.  Cindy, you lost your bestfriend and that void will never be filled but he is with you and he is listening and holding you when you cry and laughing when you laugh.  Irving, miss you always and love you forever, PEACE!

Thank you will never be enough!!  / Kimberly Barsheff (Thankful American )

No words can ever mean as much as your selfless giving of your life for your country...where would we be without our brave Military?  Thank you..Thank you..Thank you!

Thank you and God Bless Irving  / Ken Galvin (Uncle)
Shortly after I started dating Irving's aunt and my future wife Annette in 1991, I began picking up and driving Irving and his cousin Angel about 1 1/2 hours one way from New York City to the Jersey Shore to play baseball.  I believe neither of these young boys had ever played organized baseball before, but they were willing to try it and play with other kids from the suburbs that they didn't know.  They were both open to the experience and did their best.  I was touched by the way they both handled themselves.  Eventually, I had to stop taking them, and they again handled that experience with class and acceptance.

From what I can tell, Irving handled all of his experiences the same way.  He was a classy guy who was a good team player and didn't have a big ego.  When I went to visit him, Susan, Stacey and Christian with my family a few years ago at Ft. Drum in New York State, he had clearly turned into a fine man.  He opened up his home and was a gracious host.

I have no doubt that Irving was a great, selfless soldier who led by example and was looked up to and trusted by his comrades.  Thank you for your heroism Irving, and God Bless your soul.

Ken

                 Right now I'm in a different place,
                And though we seem apart,
                I'm closer that I ever was...
                I'm there inside your heart.

                I'm with you when you greet each day
                and while the sun shines bright
               I'm there to share the sunsets, too...
               I'm with you every night.

               I'm with you when the times are good,
              To share a laugh or two,
              And if a tear should start to fall...
              I'll still be there for you.

             And when the day arrives
             that we are no longer apart,
            I'll smile and hold you close to me
            forever in my heart.

A Soldier's Mother Tribute  / Sonia Cruz (Dolly's sister )

In the autumn sky, before the harvest moon,
the war of brothers would end soon.

With water in her eyes, she would not cry,f or the son she bore,
was of flesh no more.

I know he fought well and he did good,
slain on the grounds, where other heros stood.

On the battle field, where he made his last stand,
his spirit is now free, to roam the land.

In his heart, I hope he knows why, the mother of a soldier did not cry.

Because of those beliefs, she held to be right,that little boy, had to go fight.

And for those beliefs, that caused the war,killed the son, for whom she bore.

And to all the soldiers who had to take this test,

God bless you all and may you're spirits rest!

Cindy's brother  / Sonia Cruz (Dolly's Sister )

March on Sgt. Irving Hernandez,
I thank thee for fighting for me.
Irving  Hernandez had to fight,
Until the dawn's early light,
With all of his blood, sweat and might.

Day by day he had to pray and pray,
During this War,
Not even we could ignore,
From night until dawn,
This War went on.

Through this most difficult part of his life,
The motivation of his wife, Susan and children kept him going,
And in the distance he heard the drums rolling,

There is great honor,
Honor of a great man,
Honor for our country,
Cindy's brother and Debbie's Son.

Losaida's Fallen Hero  / Sonia Cruz (Dolly's sister )

We stare at the casket;
Draped with the nation's cloth.

We are momentarily startled;
As the guns go off.

Another fallen soldier;
Being laid to rest.

We struggle to breathe;
For this tightness in our chest.

The bugler so smooth;
As he hits every note.

It is hard to swallow;
Because of this lump in our  throat.

Tears fall like rain;
As I look to the sky.

No matter how many times we hear it;
Taps still makes me cry.

The bugle now silent;
As we pray for the dead.

We gather ourselves;
As we bow down my head.

Lord bless these heroes;
Who have given their lives.

Comfort their children;
Their husbands and wives.

Let us not forget;
They have given their all.

Let the bugle be silent;
Let no more soldiers fall.

A tribute to a Veteran's Spouse  / Sonia Cruz (Dolly's sister )

A Veteran's spouse is a gem so rare,
A patriot true, none can compare.

She keeps the fires burning at home
While her brave soldier the world does roam.

The pride she shows, the fear she keeps,
And allows only darkness to see tears she weeps.

Who can count the many careers
She has given up throughout the years

To follow her soldier from station to station
So he could serve this free and great nation?

She receives no ribbons, no medals gold,
For she has pledged to have and to hold

Her husband, her soldier, her hero strong,
As he stands ready to right the wrong.

So, let us honor her as a patriot true
For she also serves the Red, White, and Blue.

Thank You Sgt Hernandez  / Donna Medeiros (passerby~daughter of ruth hobbs )

Having served for 28 years with the Armed Forces...let me thank you for your un-selfish and loyal service to the United States Army, your great country and indeed the whole free world.  You were doing your best to bring peace and stability to a troubled part of the world when you were struck down.  My heart swells with pride when I know there are dedicated soldiers like you who are prepared to pay the supreme sacrifice in this worthy cause.  Let your Family and love ones take comfort in knowing this.  God Bless You and Rest in Peace.  We 'old soldiers' will fade away but your name will live on in the records and history of  the U.S.  Army and the United States of America.

My deepest respects and condolences go out to your Family and loved ones.  God give them strength to carry on.

Dear Family of a HERO,
   I am so sorry you lost your child to this terrible war but I know you are proud that when he died he was apparently doing something he had chosen. Serving his country is the most honorable thing I can imagine. We are all grateful to him and will keep your family as well as all the fallen heros families in our thoughts and prayers.
Fallen Hero  / Wieslawa {Vicky} Fernandez (Friend of Irvings Mom )
To the entire family of a fallen Hero Sgt. Irving Hernandez  I  wish to offer my prayers and deepest sorrow for their loss. No words in this whole entire world can express  the sorrow that is felt when you lose a loved one.I hope this poem I found on a prayer card helps.
    Don't grieve for me ,for now I'm free
     I'm following the path God laid for me.
     I took God's hand when i heard the call;
     I turned my back and left it all.

     I could not stay another day
     To laugh,to love,to work or play.
     Tasks left undonemust stay that way,
     I found that place at the close of day.

      If my parting has left a void,
      Then fill it with remembered joy.
      A friendship shared,a laugh a kiss.
      Ah yes,these things,I too,will miss.

      Be not burdenes with times of sorrow,
      I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
      My life's been full, I savored much,
      Good friends,good times,a loved one's touch.

       Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
      don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
       Lift up your heart and share with me-
       God wanted me now, God set me free.

                    REST IN PEACE IRVING

Those who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice, So Many and So Young, shall NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
My brother among them. KIA-Vietnam 1967

Those we love remain with us,
for love itself lives on...
And cherished memories never fade,
Because a loved one's gone....
Those we love can never be,
more than a thought apart....
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

Softly and slowly....
Time heals...

Thank you~  / Margaret Buonpane Daughter Of Nellie (Someone Who Cares )
